Finally I got the Chinese Characters display well on my BlackBerry Curve 8330 handheld from Verizon Wireless provider. Since Verizon from USA is a very special wireless service carrier who is using CDMA network technology, it is very slow for us to get some advanced features from Verizon compared with other GSM BlackBerry carriers.
Anyhow, recently I found out Verizon has its latest 4.5 OS software for the BlackBerry Curve 8330. And this new OS support Chinese and other East Asian types of font which the big reason for me to upgrade.
Here is how to upgrade your BlackBerry Curve 8330 with Chinese language support
Step 1: make sure you have latest Desktop Manager software (latest version now is 4.7) installed on your machine.
If not, go to Blackberry website or your carrier’s web site. In my case, it is Verizon so the web site for the Desktop Manager is here (http://vzam.net/blackberry/desktop.aspx) .
The software package for 4.7 should be 470_b050_multilanguage.exe. And the instruction for downloading and installing this software is shown below:
1) Click on Save.
2) Close the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software.
3) Double click on downloaded executable file.
4) Click RUN on dialogue box.
5) Choose Setup Language from the dialog box
6) Install Shield will install all required modules on PC/laptop.
7) Allow the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software to restart at the end of the installation.
*Note: Approximate Device Software Update Time is 25 – 30 minutes (including device reset at the end of the process).
System Requirements can be found here.
Step 2: Install the latest Device Software v4.5.
To check what device software version on your own handheld, you can go to Options — About and read the version number like
BlackBerry 8330
smartphone (CDMA)
v4.5.0.77 (platform 3.2.0.51)
If yours read like v4.2 or something, you will need to upgrade to v4.5 to get the Chinese language support.
To download the latest OS from Verizon, please come to the same URL I mentioned (http://vzam.net/blackberry/) above and choose your phone mode and Email setting style, and then type in your phone number or any dummy number to start downloading.
The file should be named as something like 8330AMEA_PBr4_1.5.0_rel101_PL3.2.0.51_A4.5.0.77.exe.
After you download and save, then do the following:
Next Steps after successful download:
1) Click on Save.
2) Close the BlackBerry Handheld Device software.
3) Double click on downloaded executable file.
4) Click RUN on dialogue box.
5) Choose Setup Language from the dialog box
6) Install Shield will install all required modules on PC/laptop.
7) Allow the BlackBerry Handheld Device software to restart at the end of the installation.
Connect device via USB data cable to PC/laptop and device upgrade process will start.
*Note: Approximate Device Software Update Time is 25 – 30 minutes (including device reset at the end of the process).
Step 3: make sure you select the Language support option when you do the upgrading.
When you do the upgrading, your Chinese Language support option will not be selected by default. What you need to do is to click Options while you are on the Device Software Options of application loader screen, and scroll down to select whatever languages you need for your handheld as the screenshot below.
When your upgrading is done, the device will reboot and when it comes back then you are free to read Chinese or any other foreign languages you selected.

I downloaded the latest Blackberry Desktop Manager software version 5 with multilanguage support; however, when I tried to select Chinese, there was only the Traditional Chinese (繁体)available? Shoudl I have download something additional to get Simplied Chinese (简体)?
