Google Desktop 5.5 causes problem in Outlook 2003 which cannot open Forwarded Email Attachments

Since last week (at least I think from then) I could not open any attached emails in my Office Outlook 2003 any more. When some one forwarded an email to me with the original emails as an attachment, I clicked the attached email but nothing happened. Even I saved it as a msg file, but I could not open and read it in Outlook 2003 by double clicking as I used to.

I did not relate this problem with my Google Desktop till I checked on the web. It Seems that anyone who enabled latest version of Google Search add-in in Outlook 2003 would have the similar problem. Besides the attached emails, they could not open the added email items in the Calendar appointments. The version of Google Desktop Personal could be 5.5 beta, or similar version of Google Desktop Enterprise. I checked mine, which is Google Desktop 5.5.0709.30344-en-pb.

How to get things back to normal:

1, Open Outlook.

2, Click ToolsOptions

3, Click the Other tab, then click the Advanced button.

4, Click Add-In Manager, then uncheck the Google Desktop Search Outlook Add-in option. Then OK back to the Advance dialog window.

5, To make sure, you can click Com Add-ins button, and uncheck the Google Desktop Outlook Toolbar option.

6, Click OK to confirm and close all windows. Now, you should be fine.

I could not say how long Google will fix this problem, but for now you will have to choose either using Google Desktop Search or opening attached emails. Another bad example for the working together of Google with Microsoft.
