If you like FireFox browser as I do, then I would suggest you do not miss today’s event: to download Firefox 3.0 final and to make the world record since today (6/17/2008 10 PDT) is the official release time for FireFox 3.0 Final.
But the final build of Firefox is now available for download on the FTP server. I could not resist and already grabbed my download and installed. (I will download again as soon as its official release becomes available because my downloading will help Set a Guinness World Record for the most downloaded software in 24 hours)
IMPORTANT: Downloads from FTP server and direct links will not count towards the Guinness World Record attempt for the most software downloads in a day. If participation in this event is important to you, wait for the official release.
What I like most in FireFox 3.0 as its New Features
First of all, the Mozilla development team changed its interface. This face lift has been totally different from its first release a few years ago (2005 ?), just like someone says “Speed first, interface later” Now, we got new interface and speed finally. Well, not everybody likes the new interface, but I think we can live with it since it is a free country anyway.
Secondly, Firefox re-polished its Password Manager and Download Manager features. In new Password Save feature, you now can choose save later option if you are not sure about the enter password at the first try. And the new download manager is a pleasure to use, and it supports resumable downloads. Other new improvements include a better find system, and a totally revamped and very intuitive address bar.
Thirdly, there are the beefed up security systems. Firefox 3.0 tries its best to keep the user away from bad sites by giving them the information they need to come to an informed decision about the validity of a website. Combined with a good parental controls in the antivirus software, parents now can manage their kids’ internet surfing.
Last but not least, as I mentioned before the most important factor to me is the concern on firefox’s speed, memory usage. Fortunately, Firefox 3.0 does not disappoint us with the fastest browser ever available, and its memory footprint has been dramatically reduced as well.
You can tell from the benchmark testing below for FireFox 3.0’s speed. (Courtesy to ZDNet)
