What is Google’s plan to Microsoft’s acquisition on Yahoo!

Microsoft and Yahoo!Thing will turn into more interesting in IT area if it has anything do with money.

Good: We still see innovations and competitions going on the Internet.
Bad: No matter from which side you see, we will still see one or two big guys in this search engine game.
Ugly: More finger pointing will come up and Monopoly accuses another Monopoly for the Monopoly.

Now it is Monday, and it is enough with a weekend of news about Microsoft will buy out Yahoo! for 44.6 billion dollars. Let us see what is the plan from Google. Because the whole world knows that the acquisitions is nothing but all about Microsoft trying to beat Google.

According to the blogs from ZDNet, now Google launches its “let’s annoy Microsoft” plan with two strategies: the first to help Yahoo to make Microsoft’s buyout more miserable. and the second one is to work on the regulators.

WordPress MU 1.3 finally here

WordPress MuFrom one blog of my blogroll links, I was happy to hear that there was a newer version of WordPress MU available now. Finally MU has been upgraded nearly a month after the WordPress was upgraded to 2.3 then 2.3.1.

I downloaded the zip file from the official website of WordPress MU and compared it with WordPress MU 1.25a within WinMerge. And I found that there were a lot of files changed, including the include/kses.php. Since I did something changes on kses.php, I had to merge my changes to the newer file then go ahead to upload the new version to my blog sites.

How to enable or use Javascript and Flash embed in WordPress MU

WordPress Mu
Whenever I enter Javascript tags like <script>...</script> in the WordPress MU posts, they will disappear. The same thing is with the <object>..</object> and other HTML tags. I understand they got stripped by some filter codes due to the consideration of web security. But I need such tags badly since I have a lot of YouTube videos need to be embedded which come with <object> tags, and some Javascript tags too (like the countdown image from Ubuntu in my previous post).

What are the solutions? I could not find any official solutions from the support forum of WordPress MU website. Someone recommends to put the Javascript text in sidebar, or download some plugins to do so. Since I need to show videos in my posts, the widget sidebar one can not be good to me. I decide to change filter code file which was not my best choice though. Continue reading ‘How to enable or use Javascript and Flash embed in WordPress MU’

How to copy directory in Linux with cp command

LinuxIt is very easy for me to forget this command option, and it always take me some time to get it right when I try to copy a directory from one of my website to another website.

And I found out it is always easier when I come into the destination directory and run the cp command.

So to be summarized, I put this command with option here to make me to REMEMBER: how to easily copy a directory from on folder to another folder in Apache/Linux server.

cp -R ~/source-directory-name .

Here ~/source-directory-name is whatever you want to copy from, and please do not forget the period . at the end which is your current directory (A.K.A, your copy-to destination directory).

Share the experience of setting up WordPress MU

WordPressAs my previous post indicated, I installed WordPress MU 1.2.5 to replace my 3 individual weblogs powered by WordPress 2.2.1. Although the wordpress-mu is based all core features from wordpress, I still had some technical difficulties to get all things right as I wanted from the beginning. Finally I figured some issues out and am sharing here to hope they will be helpful for you too.

Upper Cases user name caused problems for WP-MU 1.2.5.

After the default blog installed, I registered another user name like “WebGuru” since I used it for all my old blogs. But when I tried to log into the blog with this username above and the password I received after the activation, I got an Incorrect User Name or Password error message. The customer service of new AT&T for Bellsouth customer

new_att_logo.jpgAfter AT&T took over Bellsouth at the beginning of this year, we can see a lot changes now. Not only the company name, sign we can see the change, so do the customer service representative we have to deal with. Today, I decided to call Bellsouth or AT&T to complain my DSL modem charge and it took me longer than I thought.

Right after the merge, I could not wait for AT&T’s $10 per month deal then I ordered at-that-time Bellsouth DSL service for $32 per month. When I was ordering, I was told I could get the DSL modem for free after mail-in-rebate if I signed up the service from the web. But after nearly half year, I did not see any rebate form showed up in my mail box but $7.5 charge for the modem showed up for my every month’s bill statement. I called the “BellSouth” a couple times, and each time the rebate specialist told me he/she would put my rewarding in the system since I was eligible for this rebate, and it would take 6-8 weeks to process. But after a few month’s waiting, what I received were two postcards saying that they could not give me the rebate because I did not purchase the Bellsouth FastAccess service. What?
