Google Enterprise Search and Apps are nice, but no, thanks

This morning, I got a meeting pop-up prompt reminding me I have a meeting with Google’s representative. I was excited since I thought we were going to talk about Free Wi-Fi cooperation (confused with the other topic with Google before). But when I sat down and had the introduction, I realized he was a local account manager from Google and he was going to talk about Google Enterprise application with us.

Which was still cool, since we had such similar interesting discussions  internally a few weeks ago anyway. Then he started to introduce 3 types of Google productions which can be sold to enterprises: Google Enterprise Search Appliance; Google Map & Earth; Google Apps.

But unfortunately we did not get much interesting on all of these offers above.

How to use the new Google Real Time Search

Google Real Time search is available in most English language searches. Here is how and what you can get from this new feature.

Go to Google main site, and type any keywords you would like to search. And then on the search result page, look for the Show Options on the top of your results. When you click the Expand plus sign +, you will have an extra side bar on the left of the result page.

Now, you can click the Latest option from the list, and then you will see the Google Real Time Search in play.

How to use Google Free Public Open DNS Services

As I said in my previous post, Google has introduced its own Free Public DNS services to the general public. If you used OpenDNS.org service before (208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220), you should be familiar with what Google is going to offer.

Anyway, I still suggest you change your DNS servers from your ISP’s default ones to Google, or OpenDNS in your router instead of single computers at your home.

Here is a simple how-to for you to utilize Google’s public DNS servers in your router (I am using my ISP AT&T’s Netopia Gateway as the illustrators).

According to just published Google zeitgeist 2009, Michael Jackson is the No.1 searched term in the whole world and No. 2 in the United States. It seems more international fans care about this king of pop than Americans, who is caring about more Twitter or Facebook, LOL.
